George Newsome - Member of the Tim Jenks Band

With a definite re-visiting of Tim's blues roots, the band saw the re-emergence of a somewhat 'legendary' figure in the driving seat in 2006.

George Newsome has a fairly awesome CV when it comes to blues drumming.

He was one of the original members of the 'Climax Blues Band', (originally known as the Climax Chicago Blues Band). From 1968 to 1973 he recorded five albums and toured with the band - just missing out on proper fame and fortune when the 'Climax' had a hit with 'Couldn't Get It Right'.

However, George did some gigs with the very fine Alexis Korner and established himself as a reknowned bluesman.

He teamed up with Tim in 2006 on a regular basis and recorded 2 albums with Tim's Band– ‘Tear Down The Walls’ and ‘Realms of Glory’ - both achieving excellent reviews in the Cross Rhythms directory.

A huge crowd turned out at the Claregate ‘Room 4 The Blues’ on Friday 24th April 2015 to witness one last great jam session as George played his swan song with the Tim Jenks Band. George and his wife Pat left for Cornwall and head off to a retirement of walking the coastal paths. They move house on Wednesday 6 May, leaving a bit of a vacuum in the line-up that calls for some masterful blues shuffle drumming.
